During Ramadan 2026, Zionist Israel closed and prevented Muslims from performing worship at Al-Aqsa Mosque from late February 2026 onwards. In response, the Aqsa Working Group (AWG) has called upon all Muslim-majority nations worldwide that are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take concrete action to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque. The AWG demands that the OIC move beyond merely issuing condemnations against Zionist Israel.

The Chairman of the AWG Presidium, Anshorullah, stated that the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex is the responsibility of all Muslims, not solely the Palestinian people. He noted that the OIC was established as a response to the 1969 burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Zionist extremists.

“The AWG calls upon Muslims worldwide to never lose sight of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex and affirms that Muslim unity in Al-Jama’ah under one imam is the sole path to liberating Al-Aqsa and achieving Palestinian independence,” Anshorullah stated in an official AWG statement received by Republika on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
