Musim Mas and IPB University Inaugurate Rimbawan Canteen, a Sustainable Space for the Academic Community
Medan, Indonesia — Musim Mas, in collaboration with IPB University, has officially inaugurated the Rimbawan Canteen at the Faculty of Forestry and Environment following a renovation process focused on comfort, sustainability, and functionality. This initiative is part of Musim Mas’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to support the improvement of the learning environment in higher education.
The Rimbawan Canteen, which has existed for over 30 years, has been transformed into a more representative, modern, and inclusive space. Beyond providing dining facilities, the canteen is designed to serve as a public space that encourages interaction, the exchange of ideas, and community building within the campus.
The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment at IPB University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, noted that a representative canteen is vital for both academic and social activities. He highlighted that the facility now serves as a showcase for IPB University, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality facilities for students and international guests.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the renovation aims to foster better habits among students and small business owners, such as promoting self-cleaning practices and improving the management of MSMEs. Currently, the canteen hosts 16 MSME operators, consisting of alumni and members of the local community, strengthening its role as an inclusive economic space.
The President Director of PT Musim Mas, Ir. Gunawan Siregar, expressed hope that the facility would become a vibrant space for discussion and the generation of new ideas. He also emphasised the importance of collective maintenance to ensure the facility benefits future generations.
The canteen was designed with a sustainability concept, utilising durable, low-maintenance materials. The design optimises natural ventilation through wind-based ventilator turbines and maximises natural lighting via transparent roofing to ensure energy efficiency. The facility also includes a prayer room (musala) and two toilet units for user convenience.
This project is a continuation of a long-term collaboration between Musim Mas and IPB University that has spanned over 15 years. This partnership encompasses educational infrastructure development and human resource development, with many IPB graduates now contributing to Musim Mas. The collaboration reflects the importance of synergy between academia and industry in creating a mutually supportive ecosystem.
