Music concert degenerates into riot

CIREBON, Jawa Barat: Police shot and wounded at least three
teenagers while more than 10 others, mostly girls, fainted during
a stampede at an unruly music concert in Cirebon, West Java.

At least one policeman also suffered serious injuries after
being beaten during a clash with spectators, mostly teenagers, on
Saturday evening.

The riot began after thousands of people outside the city's
Bima sports stadium pressed into the venue, despite not having
tickets. They attempted to break through the fences, which were
tightly guarded by security forces.

A clash later erupted, as they pelted stones at the police,
who then responded with a salvo of rubber bullets.

The local police said on Monday that all of the injured
victims have returned home, and that problems related to the riot
were later resolved without a single arrest. --JP
