Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra — The Musi Banyuasin Regency government in South Sumatra has facilitated a free mudik programme for citizens and students from the region currently living away from home, enabling them to return to their hometowns ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

M. Hatta, Head of the Musi Banyuasin Transportation Office, said on Sunday that the local government has prepared seven buses to transport mudik participants from several cities on Java Island to Sekayu.

Four buses depart on the Yogyakarta–Lampung–Sekayu route at 07:30 WIB with approximately 166 passengers aboard.

Meanwhile, three other buses depart on the Bandung–Jakarta–Sekayu route at 12:00 WIB with approximately 117 passengers.

“The total number of passengers participating in this free mudik programme is 283 people, with priority given to students holding Musi Banyuasin identification cards,” he said.

He explained that because the journey takes place during Ramadan, passengers are also provided with free suhoor and iftar meals throughout the journey.

In addition to land transport, the Musi Banyuasin Regency has also prepared two speedboats to transport students returning to Lalan District.

“The speedboats have a capacity of approximately 80 passengers with departure points from the Palembang Hajj Hostel to the Public Works Port and are scheduled to depart on Monday around 12:00 WIB,” he said.

Meanwhile, Musi Banyuasin Regent M. Toha Tohet said the free mudik programme represents the local government’s commitment to assisting Musi Banyuasin students and citizens living away from home so they can return to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families.

“This is one of our efforts to help Musi Banyuasin students and citizens who wish to return to their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families. We want to ensure they can return home safely and comfortably,” he said.
