Museums take part in RI anniversary
JAKARTA (JP): The government has appealed to all museums in
the city to fully participate in the commemoration of Indonesia's
50th independence anniversary.
Emil Salim, the chief executive of the organizing committee
for the golden anniversary, on Wednesday met with the officials
who manage the 45 museums in the city to discuss preparations for
the various celebrations.
The museums this year are expected to exhibit as much as
possible to reflect the history of the national struggle before
and after independence, Emil was quoted by Antara news agency as
saying.
He said a museum is one of the most appropriate venues to
display the history of the nation's struggle. "Through museums,
one can see what has been achieved by a nation and what it wants
to achieve in the future."
The museums should be able to instill in the people the spirit
that was the force behind the fight for independence and national
unity, he added. (emb)
