Museum visits rise 13.15 percent during school holiday season

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Museum and Cultural Heritage (MCB) Public Service Agency (BLU) of the Ministry of Culture recorded a 13.15 per cent rise in museum visits during the July 2026 school holiday season compared with the same period last year.

“The number of visits to units fully managed by Museum and Cultural Heritage during the July 2026 holiday season reached 118,510 visitors, up from 104,733 visitors in 2025,” said the Head of Museum and Cultural Heritage, Indira Esti Nurjadin, to ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Esti, the increase is the result of various efforts carried out simultaneously, ranging from public programme development, exhibitions and collaborations with various partners, to innovations in visitor services, including the Museum Passport programme.

There are currently 16 museums managed by MCB that provide on-site stamps, as a form of participation in the Museum Passport programme.

The Museum Passport offers a number of benefits for its holders. It includes free admission vouchers to nine museums and one cultural heritage site managed by MCB.

In addition, visitors who manage to collect all the stamps from MCB museums will receive attractive souvenirs as a token of appreciation.

The Ministry of Culture introduced the Museum Passport programme in May to attract tourists while introducing a new way of visiting museums.

Museums currently participating in the Museum Passport programme include the National Museum of Indonesia, the Indonesian Batik Museum, the Sangiran Early Man Museum Ngebung Cluster, the Indonesian National Gallery, the Museum of National Awakening, the Majapahit Museum, Bung Karno’s House, the Yogyakarta Struggle Museum and the Song Terus Museum.
