Murders by MILF on peace agenda

MANILA (AFP): The execution-style shooting of two men by a
Philippine Moslem guerrilla group (MILF) will be discussed in
upcoming peace talks between the rebels and the government, the
two sides said yesterday.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front lined up two suspected
murderers before a guerrilla firing squad in the town of Masiu
Monday, provoking an uproar by civil rights groups.

The killings "will be tackled when they (the rebels and the
government) discuss the agenda," of a meeting between the two
sides scheduled for November, said Manuel Yan, chief of the
government peace panel. He did not give a date for the first
meeting.

The deputy chief of the MILF, Mohammad Murad, said in an
interview over DZBB radio station here that the government panel
was welcome to raise the issue in the talks.
