Jakarta — The suspect in the murder of Ermanto Usman, a retired employee of PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), has confessed to unknowingly taking car keys whilst robbing the victim’s home.

The vehicle parked at the victim’s house was never intended as a target by the killer and robber, Sudirman (28).

“The suspect had no intention of taking the car keys or the vehicle. He only intended to steal valuable items that were easy to carry,” said Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Police (Polda Metro Jaya), to Kompas.com on Friday (12 March 2026).

Without his knowledge, there were car keys inside the bag he took.

“The suspect took a female woven plastic bag, and it turned out there were two car keys inside the bag,” said Budi.

Subsequently, Sudirman discarded the bag whilst passing through Kalimalang, East Jakarta. The keys were thrown away together with the bag.

The stolen goods were later sold by Sudirman to various locations, including a mobile phone and a gold bracelet.

“The gold bracelet was sold to women or dealers sitting in front of Koja Market in North Jakarta,” said Budi.

Previously, it was reported that Ermanto and his wife, Pasmilawati (60), were robbed and assaulted, resulting in death on Monday (2 March 2026).

Ermanto died at the scene, whilst his wife remained in critical condition and continued to undergo intensive care at the hospital.

The murder was committed by the perpetrator purely to seize the victim’s assets.

The panicked perpetrator, upon discovering he had broken into the home, immediately struck Ermanto and his wife with a crowbar.
