Murderer gets 10 years in jail

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Medan District Court sentenced Iwan Susilo, 34, to ten years of imprisonment. He was found guilty of murdering his now late friend, Suardi.

Presiding judge T. Sembiring said Iwan stabbed Suardi in the abdomen with a knife on Sept. 1, 1995, Antara reported Friday.

Suardi had reportedly accused Iwan of being drunk. A fist- fight ensued. Iwan later whipped out a knife he always brought with him, chased Suardi, and stabbed him.

Prosecutors had demanded a 14-year term. (swe)
