Murderer from Surakarta to be executed in Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): The execution of a convicted murderer on death
row is imminent now that President Soeharto has rejected his
appeal for clemency, the Antara news agency reported.
Kartacahyadi, alias Yongki, a 35-year-old man convicted in a
triple murder case in Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, has
accepted the sentence. He added that he would like to be executed
as quickly as possible and, an official in Surakarta reported,
has even offered his organs to anyone in need.
"I ordered Surakarta's prosecutor to ask Kartacahyadi if he
wanted to proceed with a special legal defense, but he said no,"
Central Java prosecutor chairperson Harry Mudjono told Antara.
The execution will be carried out in Jakarta in order for his
family to bury him in the city.
Capital punishment is legal in Indonesia and two men have
already been executed this year. The first was a Malaysian drug
dealer executed in Jakarta and the second an Indonesian man, who
killed his entire family in North Sulawesi in 1985.
Kartacahyadi was sentenced to death by the Surakarta District
Court in 1990 for the brutal murder of three people in the house
he was robbing in February of that year in Solo.
He was accompanied by 42-year-old Tugiman bin Sikin, who came
to the house of Utomo Kasidi and killed Utomo's 40-year old
brother Sasongko Suryo, the 11-year old son Danny and the 23-year
old housemaid Lasiyem.
They then took some valuables from the house, including
Utomo's car. The total loot was estimated to be worth about Rp 40
million ($18,000).
Kartacahyadi and his accomplice, Tugiman, who also received
the death sentence, are currently being held in Jakarta's
Cipinang jail. (29)
