Murder suspect questioned

JAKARTA (JP): Tebet Police detectives are questioning a murder suspect in connection with the Saturday morning killing of a clothing manager at his residence on Jl. Tebet Timur IV, South Jakarta.

Tebet Police chief Maj. Aslimanao identified the victim as Rudy Liando, 38, manager of the Executive 99 clothing store at Mal Taman Anggrek in West Jakarta. The suspect was identified as Abubakar Sidiq, 21.

"We have yet to find out what the motive is. We suspect it's revenge but that's a guess. We still have to question the suspect," Aslimanao told reporters on Saturday.

Aslimanao said that Rudy, a bachelor, was found with "two stab wounds on his neck and one in the chest area. He (Abubakar) used a bread knife."

Police have confiscated the bread knife as evidence.

"The man just went to Rudy's house in Tebet at about 8 a.m., stabbed him and ran off. It was fortunate that residents found out."

When Rudy was stabbed, he ran out of his house and started screaming for help. His cries were heard by residents, who then caught sight of the suspect. They chased after Abubakar, caught up with him and beat him up badly until officers of the Tebet Police arrived in time to arrest him. (ylt)
