Murder suspect arrested
SURABAYA: Police have arrested a woman suspected of murdering
a woman whose mutilated body was found here recently.
The head of the East Java Police Office, Maj.Gen. Roesmandi,
said that police arrested the suspect, whom he identified as Mrs.
As, 41, in the south of East Java's capital city, yesterday.
She will be charged with the murder of Pujiastutik, 32, five
days ago.
"We have discovered only two pieces of the corpse," said the
head of the City Police, Col. S. Bimantara.
He added that police had found enough material evidence to
form a credible case. They are a knife, which was used to kill
the woman, a saw to cut up her body and some other tools.
The police, he said, have also interrogated the son, husband
and a neighbor of the suspect. The son, Bimantara said, had
helped his mother throw away the pieces of the body, which were
wrapped in a plastic bag, although he was not aware what the
contents were.
The neighbor had told the police that she heard the victim
screaming.
"The motive of the murder is debt burden," he was quoted by
Antara as saying yesterday.
The suspect used to borrow money from her neighbors but when
she tried to get some from the victim, the latter mocked her
contemptuously, according to neighbors.
