JAKARTA (JP): A Malaysian allegedly strangled a young woman moments after he awaken, a prosecutor told a court here yesterday.

The Malaysian, identified only as GS, was charged with killing an Indonesian woman on Oct. 16 last year, prosecutor Muhammad Yusuf said.

On Oct. 15, Wati and her friend Rini visited the suspect and friend Zumar in Sahid Jaya Hotel on Jl. Jendral Sudirman. Zumar and Rini left after dinner while Wati stayed behind, saying she had some matters to discuss with the Malaysian.

The suspect and Wati went to the Malaysian's room and Wati asked for a loan of between Rp 500,000 to Rp 1 million, the prosecutor said. The suspect told Wati that he did not have the money but would make sure she received it the next day, prosecutor Muhammad said.

The murder occurred the next morning at about 6 a.m., the prosecutor said, after a quarrel over Wati's lost virginity the night before.

Rini attended the hearing but has not yet been called to testify.

The trial is presided over by Judge Djalal Dalail and lawyer Amir Syamsuddin is the defense lawyer.

The hearing was adjourned until next Tuesday. (14)
