Murder Convict at Karangasem Prison Dies

An inmate convicted of murder, identified by the initials MT (30), who was serving his sentence at Karangasem Class IIB Prison, died on Sunday (6/9/2026). MT passed away after receiving intensive treatment at Karangasem Regional General Hospital (RSUD) due to a brain infection.

The public relations officer of Karangasem Class IIB Prison, I Made Adi Aryastawan, explained that MT died at RSUD Karangasem, not inside the prison. He said that, based on the results of a CT scan, there was an abscess or fluid in MT’s brain.

“The individual concerned passed away yesterday morning at RSUD Karangasem, and his body was handed over to his family on the same day,” Adi said on Monday (7/9/2026).

Adi explained that MT had entered Karangasem Prison around a year ago after being sentenced to 15 years in a murder case. He initially served his sentence at Gianyar Detention Centre before eventually being transferred to Karangasem Class IIB Prison.

When he first entered Karangasem Prison, MT claimed to have no history of illness. However, since mid-August 2026, he had visited the clinic several times complaining of headaches and was immediately given medication.

On Thursday (3/9/2026), MT returned to the clinic with severe headaches and was eventually referred to RSUD Karangasem. During his examination at the hospital, MT suffered repeated vomiting and a decline in consciousness before eventually being declared dead.
