Police have revealed that the murderer of a Joxzin Brigade militia member named Kitin Yoga Tama Rustamaji (KYR) had attended a drinking session at the victim’s residence in Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul. The perpetrator, identified as SS alias Cobro (29), was a close friend of the victim.

“SS, FS, and the victim, along with eight people total, gathered at KYR’s house starting at 20:00 on 24 February until Wednesday 25 February at 04:00. They consumed alcohol there,” said Bantul Police Chief AKBP Bayu Puji Hariyanto at Bantul Police Station on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

Bayu stated that during the drinking session, a conversation occurred that was deemed hurtful to Cobro.

“The eight people gathered and there were conversations that were considered offensive to SS, namely ‘if you feel you are the most pious, do not come here’,” he said.

Feeling offended, Cobro then persuaded FS to leave the victim’s house on Wednesday at approximately 04:00. It transpired that Cobro convinced FS to accompany him to retrieve a machete from his residence in Gamping, Sleman.

“Then at 05:00, SS returned to KYR’s house through the back door and found KYR sleeping alongside his child and wife,” explained Bayu.

The other friends who had previously gathered at the victim’s house had already returned to their respective homes.

“SS then struck three times—the first blow hit the left side of the face, the second struck the abdomen and also caught the fingers of KYR’s wife, and the third struck the right thigh of KYR, which resulted in KYR’s death,” Bayu revealed.

Bayu added that Cobro committed the attack using a machete measuring 53 centimetres with a wooden handle.

“The perpetrator who carried out the machete attack was SS, and he had a close relationship with KYR, a friendship that included a debt of IDR 400,000 which had already been settled,” he explained.

Bayu also mentioned that the victim or KYR had previously had legal troubles.

“The victim in question was a recidivist; the perpetrator is not a recidivist,” he concluded.

It was previously reported that the murder occurred on Wednesday (25 February) at approximately 05:30. At that time, the victim’s wife heard the back door of her house open. It was then that the perpetrator, wearing a face covering (sebo), directly swung a machete towards the victim who was still asleep.

The victim’s wife managed to deflect the machete swing, sustaining injuries to three of her fingers in the process. Meanwhile, the victim’s five-year-old child sustained no injuries.
