East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin stated that Pancasila serves not only as the nation’s foundation and unifier of the Indonesian people but also as a crucial cornerstone for achieving global peace. He made the remarks while delivering the speech of the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) at the 2026 Pancasila Birth Anniversary commemoration, themed ‘Pancasila: Unifier of the Nation, Foundation of World Peace’. ‘The noble values of Pancasila are not only relevant for maintaining Indonesia’s national integrity but also provide the answer to achieving lasting world peace,’ Munjirin said at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Monday. He added that the theme highlights Pancasila’s broad relevance, not only in preserving national unity but also in addressing global conflicts and challenges. He explained that Indonesia is a tangible example of diversity united under a single national identity. With over 17,000 islands and hundreds of ethnic groups, Indonesia has maintained unity despite global challenges. Munjirin described Pancasila as the nation’s ‘moral anchor’ in confronting global upheavals, from technological disruptions to international geopolitical dynamics. ‘Pancasila is the foundation of our active and independent foreign policy. The values of deliberation and consensus we uphold are diplomatic tools desperately needed by the world today to bridge differences and end conflicts,’ Munjirin stated. He highlighted Indonesia’s contributions to global stability, including participation in UN peacekeeping missions, regional conflict mediation, and consistent efforts to advocate for justice for oppressed nations. Munjirin noted these efforts embody the second principle of Pancasila: Just and Civilised Humanity. ‘We want the world to see that peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice for all humanity,’ Munjirin said. During the event, he also urged the public to uphold Pancasila’s values as the foundation of national unity and Indonesia’s contribution to sustainable global peace.
