Munja Targets Fire Engine Exports Next Year After Securing 35% Domestic Market Share
PT Munja Utama Indonesia (Munja) is targeting expansion into the international market starting next year, as the company seeks to grow its fire engine business and strengthen its position as a national coachbuilder. CEO Robertus B. Berot said the company is exploring cooperation with several countries, including India, as part of its strategy to open export markets. “We are exploring cooperation with several countries such as India. We cannot release the data yet as we are still in the growth phase. Our target is to start exporting next year and working on the fire engine market abroad,” he said. In addition to producing special vehicles, Munja is also developing its business as a trading agent to support import and export activities. This overseas expansion comes amid the strengthening of the company’s position in the domestic market. Munja currently controls around 35% of the national fire engine market share. In the long term, the company targets increasing its domestic market share to 70% within five years through product development, increased production capacity, and marketing network expansion. To support this expansion, Munja continues to strengthen its competitiveness through investment in production facilities, improving human resource competencies, and meeting international standards. “We continue to maintain international standards and improve human resource competencies. Certification updates and investment in testing facilities are priorities so that our products continue to meet client needs without compromising quality,” Robertus explained. The company’s MUNJAFIRE brand produces various special vehicles, ranging from fire trucks, fire ladders, airport crash tenders, fire jeeps, water supply trucks, rescue trucks, water cannons, automatic motorised mobile barriers, to ambulances. These products are designed using components that meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. The company has obtained various international certifications, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, IATF 16949:2016 (compliance), and periodically renewed NFPA 1901 membership. Robertus assessed that business transformation must continue so the company can respond to changing market needs and regulations while increasing competitiveness at the global level. The commitment also led Munja to receive the Pimred Award 2026 from the Forum of Multimedia Editors-in-Chief Indonesia as appreciation for the company’s leadership and innovation in driving business growth and job creation. According to Robertus, the award serves as momentum for the company to expand production capabilities while accelerating market penetration, both domestically and in export markets.
