Purwakarta – A multi-vehicle crash involving ten vehicles on KM 93 of the Cipularang Toll Road on Thursday night is suspected to have been caused by a container truck experiencing a braking system problem. According to Cipularang’s Integrated Traffic Management Centre (PJR) chief, Kompol Joko Prihantono, speaking in Purwakarta on Thursday, the incident began when a container truck with plate B 9367 UEL was travelling from Bandung to Jakarta in the left-hand lane. As it reached the scene, traffic ahead was reported to be congested following a breakdown of a dump truck on the roadside.

The container truck then struck a pickup with plate B 9718 VAF in front of it, triggering a chain collision that involved eight other vehicles. The ten vehicles involved included: container truck B 9367 UEL; pickup B 9718 VAF; a truck with plate BL 8752 NP; Toyota Rush plate F 1308 AZ; Daihatsu Sigra plate T 1394 BJ; and a box truck (tronton) plate D 9481 AF. In addition, there was a Toyota Hiace plate E 7666 AA, Toyota Raize plate T 1518 HO, as well as Mazda Biante and Toyota Agya.

Two people, the driver and conductor of the pickup, were reported dead at the scene. Based on preliminary statements from on-site officers, besides two fatalities the crash left four others with serious injuries. ‘All victims who have been evacuated have been taken to Radjak Purwakarta Hospital for further treatment,’ said Agni.

The ten-vehicle crash blocked all lanes.
