Multi-Storey Building in Cikini Engulfed in Flames, Several People Trapped

A fire engulfed a multi-storey building in the Cikini area of Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon (5/8/2026), after residents reported the incident by telephone to the fire department at 14.45 WIB.

As of around 16.00 WIB, at least eight people were reported to be trapped inside the building during the incident. They were reportedly on the roof of the building to avoid the flames and billowing smoke.

Firefighters reportedly began extinguishing the blaze at around 14.52 WIB.

“The fire status is cooling down,” said an officer from the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) command centre as of 15.49 WIB. The cooling down process has been underway since 15.45 WIB. Officers are still spraying water to ensure the fire is completely extinguished and to prevent any re-ignition.

As of 16.10 WIB, smoke was still rising from the burning building. The firefighting operation by the fire department is still ongoing. There is no information yet on the cause of the fire.
