Permanent housing (huntap) construction for disaster-affected communities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra is being accelerated. Entering the permanent recovery phase, this acceleration is being achieved through inter-ministerial coordination, local governments, humanitarian organisations, the private sector, and community groups.

Minister of Housing and Settlement (PKP) Maruarar Sirait stated that the pace of huntap construction is being reinforced through cross-sector coordination, including with the Procurement Policy Agency (LKPP), prosecutors, police, local governments, and other stakeholders to ensure good governance. ‘Coordination has been carried out and several partnership options have been discussed, including with LKPP, prosecutors, and police to ensure good governance,’ Sirait said in a written statement on Monday, 1 June 2026.

He explained that 2,603 huntap units are currently being processed. Several hundred have already been delivered, with additional units to be handed over shortly to communities in Aceh and North Sumatra with support from the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation and local governments.

For communal huntap, the PKP Ministry continues to coordinate with the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Danantara, and the Ministry of Environment regarding land readiness.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (PRR), Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that huntap construction is a crucial part of the permanent recovery phase through the 2026-2028 Master Plan (Renduk), which includes over 11,000 cross-sector activities. ‘Priority in 2026 is infrastructure, rivers, roads, schools, and other essentials. Huntap, as survivors should not remain in temporary shelters for too long, is a key focus,’ Tito added.

According to PRR Task Force data as of 30 May 2026, out of a total of 39,217 planned huntap units across the three provinces, 1,138 are under construction and 364 have been completed.

In Aceh, BNPB is handling 6,804 units with 175 completed and 10 in progress. The PKP Ministry is preparing 20,647 units, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is building 300 ongoing units, and the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation is managing 1,000 units with 283 in progress. The Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) has completed 104 units, with additional support from Kadin Indonesia and other partners.

In North Sumatra, the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation is a major contributor with 1,103 units built, 297 in progress and 227 completed. The PKP Ministry is providing 3,707 units, BNPB is handling 2,235 units, while organisations like Baznas and individual donors are also supporting the effort.

In West Sumatra, BNPB reports 21 units in progress, Tzu Chi is managing 500 units with 54 in progress, Kadin Indonesia has completed 5 units and is continuing another 5, with local government and NGO support contributing completed units. The PKP Ministry is providing 1,252 units to accelerate permanent housing recovery.
