Multi Garam (FOLK) Strengthens Infrastructure Business, Targeting Data Centre Projects
PT Multi Garam Utama Tbk (FOLK) is expanding its business into the data centre infrastructure sector through its subsidiary, PT Traya Hidro Indonesia (Traya Hydro). The company, which is 99.9% controlled and owned by FOLK, is involved in the development of two large-scale data centre projects in Indonesia by providing water and wastewater treatment solutions.
Traya Hydro is recorded as participating in the GAIA project, which is part of the Digital Edge data centre ecosystem. Additionally, the company is involved in a data centre project within the EDGNEX Data Centres by DAMAC ecosystem, which is part of the Dubai-based DAMAC Group from the United Arab Emirates.
In both projects, Traya Hydro plays a role in supporting infrastructure needs through the provision of water and wastewater treatment systems.
This involvement aligns with the increasing investment in digital infrastructure in Indonesia. Digital Edge previously announced an investment of approximately US$4.5 billion to build an AI-ready hyperscale data centre campus in the GIIC area, Cikarang. The facility is planned to have an initial capacity of up to 500 MW, with the potential to expand to 1 GW.
Meanwhile, EDGNEX Data Centres by DAMAC announced an investment of approximately US$2.3 billion for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) based data centres in Indonesia, with a projected capacity of up to 144 MW.
In data centre operations, water requirements are a critical aspect, both for cooling systems and for the needs of clean water and domestic wastewater treatment. Wastewater from continuous facility operations must be treated to meet quality standards before being discharged or reused.
Traya Hydro relies on Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology, which allows treated water to meet domestic wastewater quality standards while offering the potential for reuse as non-consumption water. This technology is considered aligned with the implementation of water recycling systems in the design of next-generation hyperscale data centres.
“Data centre facilities demand water treatment systems that operate without interruption, are space-efficient, and produce treated water that can be reused. Our focus is to prove that these standards can be met by domestic technology and production capacity,” wrote the management of PT Traya Hidro Indonesia in an official statement on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
In addition to MBR, Traya Hydro possesses capabilities in various water and wastewater treatment technologies, including acting as a producer of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) and Ultrafiltration (UF) units. The company also maintains domestic manufacturing facilities and holds SNI (Indonesian National Standard) and TKDN (Domestic Component Level) certifications.
With these capabilities, Traya Hydro is becoming part of the supporting infrastructure chain required for the development of large-scale data centre facilities in Indonesia.
Moving forward, FOLK stated that it will maintain a disciplined, selective, and measurable investment strategy, targeting sectors with long-term fundamentals that contribute to national economic development.
In the sustainable infrastructure sector, the company anticipates that the demand for clean water and wastewater treatment will continue to rise alongside industrial area expansion, urbanisation, and the implementation of increasingly strict environmental compliance standards.
