Mujahedeen influence on cult
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian police chief Norian Mai said on Sunday that members of a Muslim cult which looted a military armory were influenced by mujahedeen's militant struggle.
In an exclusive interview on Radio Televisyen Malaysia, Norian said that the Al-Ma'unah cult planned a violent uprising to overthrow Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's government.
Mohamad Amin Mohamad Razali, local leader of the Al-Ma'unah sect, wanted to be known as the mujahedeen chief in Malaysia, he said.
Amin has said that he can teach followers to defeat their enemies with just a glance and train devotees to make them invincible to all weapons.
Norian said the cult used cassettes containing fiery speeches to influence core members and impress militant ideas on them. Core members of the cult were indoctrinated with ideas such as jihad (holy war) and martyrdom addressing the woes of Muslims in Malaysia, Aceh in Indonesia and in the southern Philippines, he said.
