MUI to hold 'halal' food expo
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) will hold a halal (permitted by the Islamic laws) food exhibition at Istiqlal Mosque on Jan. 18 to 22.
Aisyah Girindra, director of MUI's Institute of Food, Drug and Cosmetics Assessment, said that the exhibition will display various products from a number of food, drug and cosmetic companies.
Speaking after delivering a halal certificate to noodle producer PT Asia Inti Selera over the weekend, Girindra said that the exhibition is aimed mainly at popularizing the halal food products.
The halal certificate was handed over by MUI chairman K.H. Hasan Basri to Jacob Antung, president of PT Asia Inti Selera, the Antara news agency reported.
Jacob said that as a food producing company, PT Asia Inti Selera stresses the importance of the certificate as part of the company's responsibility to the consumers. (hhr)
