MUI to Hold 8th Indonesian Muslim Congress, to Discuss Law Enforcement Issues

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is set to hold the 8th Indonesian Muslim Congress (KUII) on 24-26 July 2026 to discuss various strategic national issues and law enforcement in the country. MUI Deputy Chairman K.H. Marsudi Syuhud stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday that this quinquennial forum will serve as a unifying platform for at least 87 Islamic community organisations from across Indonesia. “The KUII is held at least once every five years, and this year it is attended by 87 socio-religious organisations under the one big house of the Indonesian Ulema Council,” he said. Marsudi explained that the forum aims to facilitate constructive dialogue between leaders of Islamic organisations, academics, and government officials in safeguarding state sovereignty and public welfare. According to Marsudi, the existence of a civilised state depends heavily on adherence to the law, making the strengthening of law enforcement an absolute requirement to prevent social chaos. “A state means order (an-nidhom), not chaos. A civil society is a society that obeys the law, and this congress will examine the extent to which the law has been implemented fairly,” he stated. The 8th KUII series is scheduled to be officially opened by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and attended by leaders of high state institutions, technical ministries, and representatives of interfaith organisations.
