MUI Issues Fatwa Declaring Littering as Haram
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a fatwa declaring it haram (forbidden) to dump trash indiscriminately in rivers, lakes, and the sea in order to preserve the natural environment while supporting the government’s program, the ASRI Indonesia Movement (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful). The fatwa, contained in the Guidelines on Waste Management in Rivers, Lakes, and the Sea for Realizing Public Welfare, was presented by MUI to Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday (February 15).
