MUI: 'Islam ala Prabowo' Book is Not an MUI Product

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has asserted that the book ‘Islam Ala Prabowo: How Prabowo Subianto Practices Islamic Teachings’ is not a product, programme, or activity of the MUI. This clarification was issued to resolve the controversy regarding the alleged connection between the MUI and its General Chairman to the book.

“The book ‘Islam Ala Prabowo’ is not a programme, activity, or product of the MUI,” stated the MUI Board of Trustees, in a statement signed by MUI Vice Chairman KH M Cholil Nafis and MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan, reported on Thursday (10/09/2026).

In the official statement, numbered Kep-97/DP-MUI/IX/2026 and dated 10 September 2026, the MUI stated that the book is entirely the responsibility of the publishing and writing parties. Consequently, all content, views, narratives, and the publishing process cannot be positioned as part of the MUI’s output.

“The MUI believes this issue must be addressed clearly, proportionally, and by prioritising the principle of tabayyun (verification),” the MUI wrote.

The MUI explained that the book ‘Islam Ala Prabowo’ was launched during a series of National Coordination Meetings (Rakornas) of the National Board of Zakat (Baznas) RI on 26 August 2025. The subsequent controversy regarding the book raised questions among the public, particularly concerning the involvement of the MUI’s name and its General Chairman.

Regarding the presence of MUI General Chairman KH M Anwar Iskandar at the event, the MUI provided context for his attendance. According to the MUI, Kiai Anwar Iskandar attended the Baznas RI National Coordination Meeting solely to lead the prayer.

Therefore, the MUI requested that the Chairman’s presence be understood within the context of the event. His attendance, according to the MUI, cannot be interpreted as an endorsement or recognition that ‘Islam Ala Prabowo’ is an MUI product.
