MUI: Iranian Ambassador Reports Two Indonesian Tankers Have Passed Through Strait of Hormuz

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) engaged in a courtesy visit with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at the MUI Central Building on Monday (6/4/2026). MUI conveyed that the Iranian Ambassador informed them that two Indonesian tankers had already passed through and faced no stops or disruptions; what is occurring in the Strait of Hormuz is solely to maintain security.

Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (Waketum MUI), KH Muhammad Cholil Nafis, stated that during the meeting, they requested that the friendship between Indonesia and Iran be further strengthened mutually. He also inquired whether Iran, in the Strait of Hormuz, could permit Indonesian ships to pass in order to achieve energy resilience in Indonesia.

“The Ambassador responded that two Indonesian tankers have already passed; it’s just a matter of discussions to pass through the Strait of Hormuz safely in the current wartime situation,” said Kiai Cholil to Republika at the MUI Office on Monday (6/4/2026).

Kiai Cholil added that, were it not for the wartime situation, Iran has never imposed fees or caused disruptions. Thus, the Iranian Ambassador conveyed in his language that there are no stops or disruptions to Indonesian tankers; it’s merely for security purposes, naturally requiring intensive communication between Indonesia and Iran.
