Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has called on the Indonesian government to review its involvement in the Board of Peace (BoP) formed by the United States President, Donald Trump.

This request was issued by MUI in response to global geopolitical dynamics and the worsening humanitarian situation, particularly in Palestine.

Quoted from its official website on Sunday, 22 March 2026, MUI stressed that this review is essential to maintain the consistency of Indonesia’s peace diplomacy, grounded in constitutional mandates and commitments to global justice.

This was outlined in Press Release Number Kep-39/DP-MUI/III/2026, signed by MUI General Chairman K H Anwar Iskandar and Secretary General Buya Amirsyah Tambunan.

Support for Palestinian independence, according to MUI, is not merely a foreign policy stance but also an expression of humanitarian and religious solidarity that must be upheld.

In relation to this, MUI conveyed several key points.

First, the government is asked to conduct an official, comprehensive, and objective evaluation of the strategic benefits of Indonesia’s participation in the BoP.

Second, Indonesia’s involvement is encouraged to be conditional and time-limited, with clear indicators such as a reduction in violence against civilians, opening access to humanitarian aid, and guarantees of self-determination rights for the Palestinian people.

Third, if there is no significant and measurable progress, MUI requests that the government prepare steps for re-evaluation up to the possibility of a gradual diplomatic withdrawal from the BoP.

Fourth, MUI emphasises the importance of maintaining national unity to strengthen Indonesia’s position in multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations (UN), in promoting a two-state solution.

Fifth, the government is also urged to provide transparent and accountable public communication regarding Indonesia’s foreign policy on the Palestinian issue.

In addition, MUI invites the international community to halt violence, protect civilians, and guarantee the basic rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to independence and sovereignty.

MUI also calls on Muslims and all Indonesian people to continue strengthening humanitarian solidarity with the Palestinian people through prayers, moral support, and sustainable humanitarian actions.

MUI further affirms that every step of Indonesia’s diplomacy must be based on constitutional mandates, universal humanitarian values, and commitments to world peace.
