MUI Holds National Legal Deliberation Ahead of VIII Indonesian Islamic Congress

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), through its Legal Affairs Division, is holding a National Legal Deliberation and Law Enforcement Appreciation for Friends of the Poor and Needy in Jakarta on 2-3 July 2026. The event is part of the preparations for the VIII Indonesian Islamic Congress (KUII) 2026. Chair of the MUI Legal Affairs Division, Wahiduddin Adams, explained that the deliberation is inseparable from the larger agenda of the Pre-KUII VIII. He stated that the forum is designed to strengthen MUI’s role in responding to various national legal issues while formulating recommendations to be submitted to KUII VIII. ‘What is being prepared and implemented in this deliberation is inseparable from the preparations for the VIII Indonesian Islamic Congress 2026,’ Wahiduddin said on Thursday (2/6/2026). During the event, MUI will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Judicial Commission and the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU). This cooperation is part of strengthening the MUI Legal Affairs Division’s programme for the 2025–2030 period. The forum will also highlight MUI’s role as khadimul ummah (servant of the community) and shadiqul hukumah (critical partner of the government). Wahiduddin added that MUI will present awards to law enforcement officers and institutions deemed to have shown a commitment to the poor and underprivileged. ‘We want to appreciate law enforcers who side with the poor. It is hoped that this award can serve as an inspiration and encourage more law enforcers to deliver justice for the community,’ said Wahiduddin. On the second day, MUI will hold a coordination meeting with representatives from MUI branches across all provinces. This forum will serve as a platform to gather various legal issues from the regions while synchronising the work programmes of the central and regional MUI Legal Affairs Divisions. According to Wahiduddin, the outcomes of the deliberation and the coordination meeting will be formulated into recommendations and key points from MUI to be presented at KUII VIII as input for the government. He expressed hope that the entire series of events would proceed smoothly and produce quality recommendations through the participation of speakers from various institutions, including the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Attorney General’s Office, the Supreme Court, and other state bodies.
