MUI Hands Over Aid for Mosque and Home Rehabilitation in Flood-Hit Aceh Tamiang

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has handed over aid for the rehabilitation of a mosque and homes affected by flooding in Aceh Tamiang. The assistance was delivered by Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid, who also serves as Chair of the MUI’s Disaster Management Division, on Thursday. The handover represents the fulfilment of a mandate to manage public funds.

Nusron Wahid stated that the MUI has allocated mosque construction aid for three affected regions: Aceh, North Sumatra, and Subang, with each receiving Rp2 billion. In addition to the mosque aid, the MUI is targeting a home rehabilitation programme for 500 flood-damaged houses across three provinces, with Aceh receiving the largest allocation of 200 units due to the severity of the damage. Each house will receive Rp30 million, a standard set in line with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

Priority for the home rehabilitation programme will be given to residents who work as religious teachers, madrasah teachers, and Quran recitation instructors. The selection and verification of recipients will be coordinated directly by the local Ulema Consultative Assembly (MPU). Nusron Wahid also announced a programme to consolidate over 70,000 hectares of damaged agricultural and plantation land.

Muhammad Yusuf, Chair of the Salman Al-Farisi Mosque Prosperity Board (BKM), confirmed the receipt of an initial Rp500 million for the mosque’s renovation, part of the total Rp2 billion commitment. The mosque also received an electronic waqf land certificate from the Ministry of ATR/BPN. The renovation of the mosque, which stands on 800 square metres of land, has been ongoing for three years and has cost approximately Rp5 billion, funded by the local government and community donations.
