MUI Deputy Chairman praises DPR commitment to provide certainty on Asset Forfeiture Bill

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) K.H. Marsudi Syuhud has expressed appreciation to the leaders of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for providing certainty on the timing of the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Law, namely by mid-December 2026 at the latest.

In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Marsudi, a figure touted as a candidate for Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), stressed that the written certainty is a breath of fresh air for the public.

According to him, the promise must be carried out in earnest in order to fulfil the mandate of the nation’s leaders.

The Chairman of the Islamic Boarding School Cooperative Association (Inkopontren) assessed that the effectiveness of the legal instrument will be felt immediately after the DPR officially passes the Asset Forfeiture Law in mid-December 2026.

Marsudi considered the DPR’s commitment to be a concrete response to the collective efforts and proposals voiced by all levels of Indonesian society. As representatives of the people’s voice, the DPR is expected to safeguard this mandate to completion.

“The important thing is that we must be brave in eradicating corruption. Because it is corruption that has caused our wealth to be taken abroad,” said the President before the kiai and nahdliyin.

The President also stated that from the steps taken to stop budget leakage and the savings made by the government, the state has managed to save up to hundreds of trillions of rupiah which can be reallocated to help the poor and strengthen the national economy.

Through the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Law, the public’s moral movement and the government’s firm commitment are expected to create transparent and just law enforcement in order to save the nation’s future.
