MUI Deputy Chairman Cholil Nafis Appointed as Independent Commissioner of BSI
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has officially been appointed as an Independent Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). Kiai Cholil Nafis expressed his gratitude for the appointment. He requested prayers so that he can carry out his duties well. “Thank you for the support, and please continue your prayers so that I can carry out the mandate well and successfully,” he told Kompas.com on Wednesday (6/5/2026). “This decision marks the entry of an ulama figure into the company’s strategic ranks, in line with BSI’s efforts to strengthen governance and compliance with Sharia principles,” MUI stated. In addition to KH Cholil Nafis, the RUPST also appointed former BNI President Director Sigit Pramono as a commissioner. This change in the management structure is an additional agenda presented in the schedule change of the RUPST, which was originally planned for 17 April 2026. It was explained that Kiai Cholil will effectively assume the position after passing the fitness and propriety test from the Financial Services Authority.
