MUI Condemns Shooting at US Mosque That Killed 3 Civilians: Investigate Perpetrators

We condemn these actions as they undermine humanity, especially in a sacred place like a mosque, said Amirsyah in a statement on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

Amirsyah urged the US government to conduct an investigation into the case. He wants the mastermind or perpetrators behind the incident to be identified.

“The US government should investigate who exactly the actors and perpetrators are. In a country that is known for tight security, it’s unusual to have shooting incidents,” he said.

According to AFP, on Tuesday (19 May 2026), police said emergency responders found the victims outside the San Diego Islamic Center. Officers subsequently located the gunmen, aged 19 and 17, dead as well.

Television footage from a helicopter showed heavily armed emergency response teams gathered outside a building. One unidentified person lay in a pool of blood.

Dozens of patrol cars lined the area around the Islamic Center, described on its website as the largest mosque in the San Diego area, located in southern California.

After a brief lockdown and urging residents to remain indoors, San Diego police announced that the threat at the centre had been neutralised.

“We received a call about an active shooter at the Islamic Center. Within four minutes, officers arrived at the scene and immediately found three people dead in front,” San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl told reporters.

“We immediately began deploying the active shooter response to the mosque and the neighbouring school,” he said.

Outside the Islamic Center, police found a vehicle in the middle of the road with the shooters dead inside.

“The suspects at this time appear to have died from gunshot wounds they inflicted on themselves. No officers were involved in the shooting,” Wahl said.

Police said a security officer at the complex was among the three killed.
