MUI Condemns Alleged Sexual Abuse at Pekalongan Islamic Boarding School
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - MUI’s Pesantren Affairs Chairman Ahmad Fahrur Rozi, also known as Gus Fahrur, condemned allegations of sexual abuse at an Islamic boarding school in Pekalongan involving its caretaker, identified as AKF (55).
‘We condemn the alleged sexual abuse of female students in Pekalongan,’ he said in a text message to Kompas.com on Friday (29 May 2026).
Gus Fahrur stated that educational institutions should be safe and dignified places for nurturing the younger generation. Therefore, MUI urges the public to be more selective when choosing religious educational institutions.
He added that the incident serves as a lesson for educational institutions and families to strengthen oversight.
‘Selecting teaching staff and establishing safe reporting mechanisms for students,’ Gus Fahrur said.
It has been reported that six alumni of Padepokan Padang Ati in Buaran District, Pekalongan Regency, have filed reports alleging molestation by AKF (55), the school’s caretaker.
‘Those who reported are now adults. The incidents happened several years ago, after they graduated,’ Fatkhur said in a phone call on Thursday (28 May 2026).
He did not know the exact ages of the victims, but they were estimated to be in junior high or senior high school when the alleged abuse occurred.
AKF has been named a suspect and detained by Pekalongan City Police since Wednesday (27 May 2026).
Pekalongan City Police Chief AKBP Riki Yariandi stated that the alleged molestation of female students is believed to have started as early as 2008.
The investigation has taken a long time because the victims were previously under pressure and fear, making them reluctant to report to police authorities.
