MUI Chief and Rais Aam PBNU Arrive at the Palace Ahead of Iftar with Prabowo

Anwar Iskandar, the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), together with the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah and PBNU Rais Aam Miftachul Achyar, arrived at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026. They went to the palace to attend a silaturahmi and iftar with President Prabowo Subianto. ‘Iftar together,’ Anwar told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta. He said all chairmen of Islamic mass organisations and heads of pesantren would attend Prabowo’s invitation, including the large pesantren with wide networks. Earlier reports indicated that President Prabowo Subianto would hold silaturahmi and break fast with religious figures, leaders of Islamic organisations, and ulama at Istana Merdeka, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. The plan was revealed by the Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar after meeting with President Prabowo. ‘So it is also normal, President invites religious figures, ulama, to break the fast tomorrow,’ Nasaruddin told reporters at the Complex of the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Not only that, Nasaruddin said Prabowo also invited the leadership of pesantren to attend the event of silaturahmi and iftar. Meanwhile, the Speaker of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani, who attended the meeting, revealed that President Prabowo did not rule out exchanging views on geopolitics at present. ‘In principle the president is very open to the views and thoughts of all community leaders, the nation’s leaders, so tomorrow will also be part of that effort; the president will listen to the viewpoints.
