MUI Chairman Urges Islamic Congress to Push for People's Economy, Anti-LGBT, and AI Dakwah

The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH Anwar Iskandar, has urged the Indonesian Muslim Congress (KUII) VIII to produce strategic recommendations for the government, ranging from strengthening the people’s economy and banning LGBT practices to accelerating the development of the sharia economy and strengthening digital dakwah based on artificial intelligence (AI). Kiai Anwar made this statement during his opening speech at KUII VIII at the Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, on Friday (24/7/2026).

In his speech, Kiai Anwar expressed appreciation to the government for its commitment to carrying out the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution concerning the people’s economy. “The entire leadership of the Indonesian Ulema Council expresses our gratitude and appreciation for the government’s stance, which has been very clear in its desire to implement Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, namely regarding the people’s economy,” said Kiai Anwar.

He noted that since Indonesia’s independence, this is the first time there has been such a clear commitment from a president to realise the people’s economy as the foundation of national self-reliance. Nevertheless, he reminded that the implementation of this policy must be accompanied by good regulations and governance that is clean from corruption and manipulative practices. “Of course, our hope is that this implementation is carried out with the best possible regulations and is clean from corrupt and manipulative practices. Because that will hinder these noble ideals,” he said.
