MUI Chairman: Islamic Organisations and Government Strengthen National Unity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Iskandar, emphasised the importance of strengthening national unity in the national silaturahim and halalbihalal activities attended by dozens of Islamic social organisations (ormas) together with the government and representatives from friendly countries.
“Alhamdulillah, today all Islamic ormas in Indonesia, with members numbering in the thousands to millions, have gathered with the government and ambassadors from friendly countries to strengthen unity,” said Kiai Anwar in Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
He stressed that diversity in ethnic, religious, and political affiliations does not prevent the Indonesian nation from remaining united. According to him, the halalbihalal momentum embodies gratitude for the blessings of national unity and prosperity.
According to Kiai Anwar, collaboration between ulama and umara is one of the key elements in maintaining the country’s stability and progress.
“This unity must continue to be upheld because there are still many tasks to advance the nation in various aspects of life,” he said.
According to him, Indonesia continues to promote the resolution of various global issues through a dialogue approach.
“We are encouraged to resolve international issues by prioritising dialogue, not violence, let alone war,” said Nasaruddin.
He added that the support of the ulama serves as important motivation for the government in establishing international cooperation to create world peace.
The government, he said, will continue to prioritise dialogue diplomacy in various global forums as an effort to find solutions to the international challenges faced together.
“Support from the Majelis Ulama for the steps taken by the Indonesian Government in international forums to foster dialogue between nations to create resolutions for the international issues we face,” said the Minister of Religious Affairs.
