MUI Applauds Government for Boldly Rejecting IMF

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH Anwar Iskandar, has expressed appreciation for the decision by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to reject a number of recommendations and loan offers from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Anwar Iskandar assessed that this stance demonstrates the government’s commitment to safeguarding national economic sovereignty while supporting efforts to realise the nation’s ideal of self-reliance as mandated in Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. He added that the government’s move to reject the IMF was a precise step that required great courage. According to him, Indonesia must be able to determine the direction of its own economic development without depending on outside parties.
