Muhammadiyah's Response to the Fall of Three TNI Soldiers
JAKARTA – The Chairman of the Majelis Tarjih and Tajdid of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof Hamim Ilyas, views the three TNI soldiers who fell while carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon as martyrs. This assessment is based on the duties they undertook as part of the country’s official mission to maintain world peace. “They were carrying out state duties as legal peacekeeping forces. They can be regarded as syuhada,” said Hamim Ilyas when contacted by Republika.co.id on Tuesday (31/3/2026). According to him, from the perspective of Islamic teachings, the status of martyr is not limited only to those who fall on the battlefield in the narrow sense, but also encompasses those who die in the struggle to uphold values of goodness and public welfare.
