Muhammadiyah Urges Congregants to Donate Friday Prayer Alms for NTT Earthquake Victims
The Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah is urging Muhammadiyah members and the wider public to set aside their Friday prayer alms for communities affected by the earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The appeal is set out in PP Muhammadiyah Circular Number 18/EDR/I.0/H/2026 concerning the Collection of Friday Prayer Alms for Humanitarian Assistance for Earthquake Victims in Flores, NTT.
The circular was issued in Yogyakarta on 20 August 2026, with the alms collection to be carried out on Friday, 21 August 2026. The Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Dr Agus Taufiqurrahman, said the alms movement forms part of Muhammadiyah’s concern for communities facing the impact of the disaster.
“This is part of Muhammadiyah’s efforts to be present and help our brothers and sisters who are facing a calamity. Friday prayer alms are one tangible form of concern from Muhammadiyah members and the wider public,” Agus said in a statement on Friday (21/8/2026).
According to Agus, the collection of aid is not only carried out by Muhammadiyah leadership but also involves Muhammadiyah Charitable Enterprises (AUM) and mosque caretakers under the Muhammadiyah organisation. To ensure that the collected aid can be managed effectively, the collection and distribution process will be directed through Lazismu and the Disaster Resilience Institute (LRB) at each level.
“Coordination is important so that all resources collected can provide the greatest possible benefit to affected communities. The spirit is One Muhammadiyah One Response, so that Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian response proceeds in an integrated manner,” he said.
