Muhammadiyah Student Association Begins 62nd Anniversary Kick-off Series
The Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) has officially begun its 62nd anniversary celebration series with the theme “Moving and Making an Impact for Indonesia,” held at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
This event serves as an opening momentum for the anniversary activities and reflects on the organisation’s journey, which has produced numerous intellectuals, leaders, and national figures over more than six decades.
The General Chairman of the IMM Central Board of Directors, Riyan Betra Delza, emphasised in his remarks that IMM’s 62nd anniversary represents an important moment for the organisation to strengthen its role as an intellectual student movement that provides tangible benefits to the nation.
He stressed that IMM must continue to demonstrate concrete action rather than merely discourse. “IMM must continue to move and make an impact for Indonesia. Movement must be visible, not just words. Impact must be genuinely felt by society,” he stated.
Delza affirmed that IMM has historically produced many intellectuals and national leaders. Therefore, IMM cadres are expected to provide solutions to various national issues through ideas, thinking, and concrete action.
Delza also revealed that the IMM Central Board is currently strengthening the organisation’s intellectual foundation through research and development of strategic ideas, including compiling studies on IMM’s history and contribution to the nation’s journey.
“IMM is an intellectual student organisation. The contribution of its cadres’ thinking, spirit, and movement is expected to be a solution for Indonesia’s future,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., expressed appreciation for IMM’s contribution to education and the student movement in his remarks.
He affirmed that students play a strategic role in improving the quality of Indonesian human resources, including through strengthening education, research, and innovation.
“Campuses must become spaces that produce intellectual generations that are not only academically excellent but also have tangible contributions to society,” he stated.
On the same occasion, Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, S.E., M.E., reminded the importance of strengthening IMM cadres’ character through three main organisational foundations: religiosity, intellectuality, and humanitarianism.
According to him, these three values constitute the primary identity of IMM cadres that must be preserved in facing contemporary challenges.
“IMM has an advantage because it was built from the beginning with the foundations of religiosity, intellectuality, and humanitarianism. This is the strength of IMM cadres in facing the new era,” Dahnil said.
He also emphasised the importance of IMM cadres continuing to enhance their intellectual capacity and leadership abilities to provide positive influence widely in society.
The 62nd Anniversary Kick-off was attended by organisational leaders, Muhammadiyah figures, academics, and hundreds of IMM cadres from various regions. The 62nd Anniversary celebration activities will include various intellectual agendas, national discussions, social activities, and strengthening of cadre movements throughout Indonesia.
This momentum is hoped to be a new driving force for IMM to continue serving as a moral and intellectual force that provides tangible impact for Indonesia’s progress.
