Muhammadiyah sets 1 Ramadan 1448 H for 8 February 2027
The Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah has determined the start of Ramadan 1448 Hijriah using the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT). According to this calendar, 1 Ramadan 1448 H falls on Monday, 8 February 2027.
This determination serves as a reference for Muhammadiyah members who utilise the KHGT to determine the beginning of the Ramadan month. Meanwhile, the Indonesian government has not yet officially established the start date for Ramadan 1448 H, as it is awaiting the determination process through the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Istbat Session.
The official KHGT calendar published by Muhammadiyah lists 1 Ramadan 1448 H coinciding with Monday, 8 February 2027. Ramadan in this calendar will last for 29 days and end on 8 March 2027, which marks 29 Ramadan 1448 H.
Consequently, the first night of Ramadan is expected to begin on Sunday night, 7 February 2027. Muslims following the Muhammadiyah calendar may begin performing Tarawih prayers on that night.
Muhammadiyah has also set 17 Ramadan 1448 H, or Nuzulul Quran, to coincide with Wednesday, 24 February 2027.
Muhammadiyah’s version of Eid al-Fitr
In addition to the start of Ramadan, the Muhammadiyah KHGT has included the determination of 1 Syawal 1448 H. Based on the calendar, Eid al-Fitr 1448 H falls on Tuesday, 9 March 2027.
Determination through the KHGT allows Muhammadiyah to determine dates in the Hijri calendar well in advance of the actual month, as it uses a pre-arranged calendar calculation system.
Although Muhammadiyah has set 8 February 2027 as 1 Ramadan 1448 H based on the KHGT, this date is not yet the official decision of the government for the entire Indonesian population. The government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, determines the start of Ramadan using the hisab and rukyatul hilal mechanisms, which are subsequently discussed in the Istbat Session. As Ramadan 1448 H is still several months away, the government has not yet issued a final decision regarding the start of the 2027 fast.
Discrepancies in the start date of Ramadan remain possible because each party may use different methods and criteria for determining the beginning of the Hijri month. Therefore, the public should follow the official decisions of the organisations or the government that serve as their reference.
Ramadan 2027 Schedule: Muhammadiyah Version
Referring to the Muhammadiyah KHGT, the series of important dates for Ramadan 1448 H are as follows:
1 Ramadan 1448 H falls on Monday, 8 February 2027.
17 Ramadan 1448 H or Nuzulul Quran falls on Wednesday, 24 February 2027.
29 Ramadan 1448 H falls on Monday, 8 March 2027.
1 Syawal 1448 H or Eid al-Fitr falls on Tuesday, 9 March 2027.
Thus, 8 February 2027 is the start date of Ramadan according to the Muhammadiyah Single Global Hijri Calendar, while those following the government’s determination must still await the results of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Istbat Session.
