Muhammadiyah Reminds Faithful to Uphold Unity in Facing Global Conflicts

Makassar - The Secretary General of the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mu’ti, reminded the faithful of the importance of upholding unity and harmony as the nation’s capital to face global crises, particularly in the Middle East. At the Muhammadiyah Sulawesi Selatan Syawalan event in Makassar on Saturday, Abdul Mu’ti said that what is happening between America, Israel, Iran, and various countries involved in the conflict must not allow its impact to affect the nation’s unity and integrity. “What exists between America, Israel, Iran, and various countries involved in the conflict is stubbornness in the group, and then when it gets serious, the anger,” he stated in front of thousands of Muhammadiyah Sulawesi Selatan cadres. Abdul Mu’ti, who is also the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, said that what can be done is to strive to become players in solving problems and not become players who instead muddy the issues. “Therefore, we all need to strengthen harmony and unity. That is the social capital, political capital, and spiritual capital for us to overcome various problems we face,” he said. “To foster a sense of unity and harmony, he invited everyone to reflect on and practise what Allah has given as guidance for us and the guidance given by the Prophet Muhammad for us,” he continued. He also said that to strengthen unity, the first key is not to feel superior to others. Quoting the Quran which reminds, “O you who believe, let not one group of men among you feel superior to another group of men. For it may be that the group that is belittled is better than the group that belittles.” Likewise, let not one group of women feel superior to another group of women. For it may be that the group that is belittled is better than the group that belittles.
