Muhammadiyah rectors to visit Britain

SURABAYA: Eleven rectors of Muhammadiyah universities across
the nation are slated to visit Britain later this month under the
sponsorship of the British Council.

"The visit is part of cooperation between Muhammadiyah and
Britain," Syafik Mughni, rector of the Muhammadiyah University in
Sidoarjo, East Java, said here on Monday.

He said the visit was aimed at exchanging information between
British Muslims and Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second largest
Islamic organization.

Syafik, who will be among the eleven visitors to Britain, said
the delegates would visit the London Islamic Center, the Islamic
Cultural Heritage Center, the Muslim College, the Islamic Relief
organization and the Islamic Human Rights Commission.

They are also scheduled to hold separate discussions on
interfaith relations with the Interfaith Network and leaders of
the Anglican and Catholic churches.

Earlier this year, two groups of eleven Muhammadiyah figures
made visits to Britain in July and September respectively for
similar goals. --Antara
