Muhammadiyah’s Law and Human Rights Council (MHH) under the Central Leadership has stated its readiness to monitor and oversee the investigation into an alleged acid attack targeting human rights activist Andrie Yunus of KontraS (Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence). On the evening of Thursday, 12 March 2026, the civil society activist became a victim of violence whilst returning home after participating in a podcast episode titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” hosted at the Legal Aid Institute Foundation (YLBHI) office in Jakarta.

Dr Trisno Raharjo, Chairman of the MHH Central Leadership, stressed that the public expects the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation that exposes those behind the attack.

He cautioned that failure to handle this case openly and comprehensively could damage the democratic climate and instil fear amongst civil society. Nevertheless, Trisno expressed confidence that civil society groups would continue to voice critical opposition to policies deemed inconsistent with sound legal principles.

“This case must be properly resolved right through to identifying the intellectual architects. The MHH Central Leadership is prepared to monitor and oversee this case,” Trisno Raharjo told Republika on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

He expressed hope that police would swiftly apprehend those responsible for the attack on Andrie Yunus. According to Trisno, there are no significant obstacles to the investigation, particularly given the availability of video footage of the incident.

“I do not see this case as difficult to resolve. It simply requires commitment and willingness to apprehend the perpetrators. I also hope the President takes firm action to ensure the police perform their duties effectively,” Trisno added.
