Muhammadiyah Eid Prayer in Labuan Bajo Without Loudspeakers
Residents affiliated with Muhammadiyah in various regions celebrated Eid al-Fitr on 1 Syawal 1447 Hijri today. Congregants of Muhammadiyah in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), held the Eid prayer without loudspeakers to honour other Muslims who are still performing the final day of fasting. The Eid prayer this morning was conducted at Masjid Al Ikhlas within the West Manggarai Police Resort complex. The external loudspeakers were turned off during the chanting of takbir. “The prayer proceeded in a focused manner while ensuring the comfort of our brothers and sisters who are still fasting. We continue to uphold tolerance among fellow Muslims,” stated the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PD) in West Manggarai, Muhammad Arun, on Friday (20/3/2026). Previously, Muhammadiyah residents in Labuan Bajo also omitted street takbir processions. The takbir night was held simply at Masjid Al Ikhlas of the West Manggarai Police Resort. “We conducted it simply, with takbir without external sound to respect our Muslim brothers and sisters who are still fasting,” he added. Arun explained that maintaining the atmosphere for other Muslim residents still fasting was one of the considerations for Muhammadiyah to hold the Eid prayer not in an open field. He also revealed a different atmosphere felt by some of the congregation regarding this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration, which was not held on the same day. Arun said the number of congregants attending the Eid prayer today was around 300 people. “Muslims are not yet accustomed to an Eid prayer that differs like this. However, some are already accustomed because Muhammadiyah in West Manggarai has frequently organised its own prayer according to the decision of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership,” Arun clarified.
