Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership has expressed concern and condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other victims who were targets of military strikes by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran. “We extend the same condolences to the victims of Iran’s retaliatory strikes in several Arab countries,” stated Muhammadiyah’s official statement on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Muhammadiyah has strongly condemned the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, viewing them as violations of human rights, international law, and disregard for United Nations decisions.

“We urge the United Nations (UN) to no longer remain silent and immediately impose concrete legal and political sanctions against those deemed to have violated the sovereignty of other nations,” said Syafiq A. Mughni, Chairman of Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership, in Yogyakarta, Monday, 2 March 2026.

Syafiq stressed that military action undertaken by the United States and Israel against the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran constitutes a serious violation. “We call on the UN to impose sanctions against the United States and Israel for this violation,” he said.

Muhammadiyah views the attacks not merely as routine military action, but as a complete disregard for UN decisions and international law that have long served as the foundation for world peace.

Muhammadiyah regrets that the attacks on Iran have resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and many other victims in several Arab countries. “The loss of so many lives is concrete evidence of human rights violations that must be stopped immediately,” he said.

Muhammadiyah has called upon multilateral and bilateral institutions, as well as religious leaders throughout the world, to unite in condemning arbitrary actions that could destroy civilisation. “We also urge Iran and Arab countries to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue in order to maintain regional stability,” he said.

In addition to sanctions on the attacks against Iran, Muhammadiyah will push the UN, together with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to immediately halt the genocide practices affecting the Palestinian people.

The focus of this demand is the cessation of all forms of violence to prevent the escalation of tension between nations in the Middle East region.

Muhammadiyah believes that the UN’s failure to act decisively will result in further escalation of conflict involving fellow OIC members. “Therefore, diplomatic measures must be pursued as the final solution,” he said.
