Muhammadiyah Calls for Public Patience to Maintain Political and Economic Stability

The Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah has stated that public patience is necessary in facing various national issues, ranging from the rupiah exchange rate and the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) to the increase in fuel prices. “Public patience is needed to face these uncomfortable conditions until we enter the constitutional economy and the new normal,” asserted the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah for Economic, Business, and Industry Affairs, Muhadjir Effendy, on Thursday (11/6). He explained that the nation is currently undergoing a transitional process towards a constitutional economic system based on Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, as proclaimed by President Prabowo Subianto. “President Prabowo is actually attempting a great leap. Naturally, on the path toward a constitution-based economy, there are anomalies, there is a crisis,” he said. According to Muhadjir, this crisis phase is indeed marked by the rise in the US dollar exchange rate against the rupiah and issues with the IHSG. However, this condition is a process towards a new normal. “The public’s patience is critically needed and is absolute for reaching the new normal of an economy based on the constitutional economy,” he stated. The General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, emphasised the importance of maintaining economic and political stability amidst the current global uncertainty. In this context, he is optimistic that the ministers, who are experts in their fields, are capable of solving the nation’s various problems. “At a macro level, we hope for economic and political stability,” he said. Furthermore, the public is requested to help build a positive perception in the public sphere and shared optimism that they can resolve various issues. Meanwhile, those in authority are reminded to remain humble and to view the nation’s current challenges as a collective problem. “There is always a solution to every problem. Do not overreach your own capabilities to the point where you end up unable to solve it,” he concluded.
