Muhammad Suryo has become the subject of widespread discussion following a motorcycle accident in Kulon Progo. As Chief Executive Officer of Surya Group Holding Company, he is the principal figure behind the HS cigarette brand, which has experienced rapid growth since its initial launch in July 2024.

Muhammad Suryo is an entrepreneur born in Lampung on 27 March 1984, widely recognised as a self-made businessman who built his enterprise from humble beginnings. Before achieving success with the HS cigarette line, Suryo ventured into various business sectors, including water refill services, construction, property development, oil and gas, and owned an airline named Fly Jaya.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in Yogyakarta, a city that subsequently became the primary operational base for his parent company, Surya Group.

HS cigarettes are manufactured under Surya Group Holding Company. The main factory is located in Muntilan, Magelang Regency, Central Java. Despite being a relatively new player, HS has managed to compete with major brands through competitive pricing strategies and diverse product variants.

In early 2026, Muhammad Suryo announced plans for substantial expansion aimed at absorbing up to 10,000 workers. The company is building expansion facilities in East Lampung and Yogyakarta.

On 1 March 2026, Muhammad Suryo experienced a traffic accident in Kulon Progo whilst riding a motorcycle. The tragic incident resulted in the death of his wife, whilst Suryo was reported to be undergoing intensive medical treatment.
