Muhaimin urges informal workers to join BPJS Ketenagakerjaan

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has urged informal workers to register for BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as a form of social protection that provides security for workers and their families.

Speaking during a visit to the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan office in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday, Muhaimin stressed that social protection should not be limited to formal workers but must also reach the millions of informal workers who form the backbone of the community’s economy.

‘However, before the state is able to assist everyone, I hope informal workers will start building awareness to protect themselves through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership,’ he said.

He noted that informal workers such as traders, farmers, fishermen, drivers, MSME operators, and freelancers are vulnerable to various occupational risks. Therefore, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership is a crucial instrument to ensure they receive protection in the event of workplace accidents, death, or upon entering retirement.

Muhaimin also expressed appreciation for the ongoing service innovations at BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, including digitalisation through the JMO application and the Claim Center, which enable faster, easier, and more efficient online claims processing.
